Today was a fun day of baseball. My son’s baseball team had their first scrimmage of the new year. While baseball season for them is still several months away, it was nice to watch him pitch and play second base.
Day 135 – Time for a Dip!
Went to a friend’s 20 year birthday party tonight in Venice and what a great time! Some folks know how to get it done, even sober! 🙂 What a great time – my son was proud of his ability to knock down 8 tacos from the catered taco stand. SOOOO good!
Day 131 – Venice High
Venice High is home to several movies and TV shows; most notably Rydell High from Grease. American History X, Matchstick Men, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Heathers were shot here. Britney Spears’ “Baby One More Time” was filmed here as was Glee and many other TV shows, videos, etc. Speaking of Grease, the opening… Read More
Day 113 – Sand Dune
Tonight while looking for opportunities to shoot, I was taken with the wind, the full moon, the hazy sky, and the general feel of the night. Therefore, I ended up in Venice Beach and like how my headlights were creating shadows and textures in the sand. So tonight’s image is a very simple, stripped down… Read More
Day 83 – Venice Beach
Venice Beach is one interesting place, especially at night. The “nomads, hobos, vagabonds, urban campers, bohemians, hippies, housefree, houseless, van dwellers, travelers, etc.,” as expressed by @StandAloneHobo, the tourists, the teenage runaways, the locals, and the yuppies hitting the local restaurants. I love the artwork/graffiti throughout the city. The “Venice” sign illuminates the little main… Read More
Day 80 – Urban Camping?
Living in Southern California where the weather is pretty nice nearly all year long, we have our issues with “homeless”. It’s an interesting dilemma as I think the homeless can be broken out into three major buckets: A) Mentally ill, B) Addicts/Alcoholics (probably a sub classification of “A”), and C) those that are down due… Read More
Day 53 – North Venice
I went to go watch my son practice for his high school baseball team. This is his first year playing at this level. Generally, I tend to take action shots or something of that effect to practice, or catch a great swing or a catch. However, the entrance to the field had the most vivid,… Read More
Day 32 – Venice “Clownerina”
Venice Beach – I love this place. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I live in Santa Monica, but Venice is quite the eclectic place. I’ve always enjoyed the clown over the CVS pharmacy and have wanted to capture it. Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of traffic tonight, so the sunset was gone creating… Read More
Day 14 – Venice
I love Venice – what an eclectic neighborhood. From creative artists, affluent neighborhoods, the canals, colorful buildings, Venice Beach, Muscle Beach, Venice Boardwalk, to the homeless, drug addicts, street dwellers; this community encompasses all aspects of humanity within its borders. Tonight I drove down Main Street admiring all of the trendy and niche business and… Read More
