My son had a baseball game in City of Commerce today and Waze gave us an interesting route there – we hugged the 10 and the 5 freeways along the surface streets and passed various “tent cities” under the overpasses and passed several industrial areas. So after the game, we took a quick detour home to drive near where the downtown missions are located to take in skid row. I tried to capture a shot of the tents and the ‘night life’ contrasted against the high rises, but the images just didn’t move me. I read in a book somewhere that sometimes when shooting sunsets, make sure to turn around – sometimes the best colors are behind you. That was my experience tonight. For me, there’s just something about this image that I like, especially considering this is the shot where I “turned around” to capture that POV. I deleted the other photos and this is my final. It was a VERY low light situation, so I had to crank the ISO and drop the aperture to get a handheld speed. I’m happy with the way things turned out!
