The El Nino storm came through today and as of 4PM PT, Santa Monica airport received .97″ during the previous 6 hours. With the clouds breaking up around sunset – the sky was on fire – again. However, I was intrigued with St. Monica’s Church against the sky and the hues against its sides. I decided to shoot in black and white for the dramatic effect.
I don’t know what it is about churches, but I have always felt at peace inside – even when I wasn’t ‘religious’. The Friday after 9/11 – I found myself in a church in the valley praying to a God I didn’t understand, and hadn’t really known since I was a kid, which to be candid, wasn’t exactly a substantive or mature understanding. I have since come to understand, and really like the pithy statement, that the church is not “a place where”, but is “a people who”. As I trudge the road to happy destiny in 2016; I am certainly endeavoring to be more sacrificial with my time, energy, and resources to more fully become “a person who” while looking for beauty in all things.
