I’ve never shot the Milky Way and have always wanted to. My understanding is that it’s best to shoot (most visibly) from April through August or September, so I decided to go get a sample practice shot in while we were nearing new moon phase towards end of March. So after a fun trampoline party… Read More
Superbloom in Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve
It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted. In 2017, I photographed my first wedding which was immediately followed by a trip to Paris. This was during the same year I was doing a photo a day challenge and that just overwhelmed me and I lost motivation. I put the camera down for a bit,… Read More
Sequoia National Park – Hume Lake Road Trip
(more images attached…) Yesterday I headed north with my 16 year old son to attend Hume Lake camp. We had a lot of fun doing a road trip together, eating cheeseburgers, fries, and shakes, then dropping him off. That let a 4+ hour solo road trip on the way home for me, but made for… Read More
Day 126 – Leo Carillo
Today is day 2 of practice with Photoshop. Today I played with blending images. Today’s image is a blend of three bracketed shots (median exposure (base), overexposed for shadows, and under exposed for highlights). Images were brought into Photoshop where luminosity masks were used to blend the photos together (no Photomatix or other ‘HDR’ software… Read More
Day 87 – Peace
Gave double exposure a try today, blend mode is “Light”. First picture was daughter’s hand in a peace sign against a bright sky, with the second exposure being a rose. “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 Happy resurrection… Read More
Day 85 – San Diego Zoo Safari Park
Shots of Safari What an incredible day! Was roughly 80 degrees at the Safari Park, no clouds, blue sky, and quite the range of animals; from delicate butterflies to rhinos. So picking today’s image is quite a challenge. But, I’m going with the cheetahs as they are relatively new and the cubs were recently born… Read More
Day 35 – Humming Bird #2
I’m still challenged with these little buggars. The image isn’t completely sharp, could be due to shallow DOF and being so close shooting through a window. I won’t give up until I get a tack sharp image! Shot with Canon 5DmkIII, 70-200mm f/2.8L, 200mm, 1/2000″, ISO 3200, f/2.8
Day 34 – Humming Bird
The most ‘uninteresting’ picture of a humming bird. We got a feeder and our two year gets excited about the humming birds. I’ve tried to capture it, but those li’l suckers are elusive! I will still try to freeze frame the capture, perhaps set up a strobe outside to get better lighting, I’m not sure.… Read More
Day 19 – Misty Moon
Today was a long day and in terms of my commitment to photographing an image a day, this falls under the phrase, “commitment day”. Tonight was drizzling on the way home from an event, so grabbed my camera and shot the moon behind the mist along with the single palm tree. This was a low… Read More
Day 15 – Rose Focus Stack
It’s the end of the week, and a productive one at that! Work has been good and I’ve made a lot of progress. Even though my creativity is not as strong as others, this daily focus on the ‘Shot of the Day’ has been good to clear out my mind and has given me more… Read More
